Lead Teacher Training Program

This foundational course addresses the systemic challenge of "initiative fatigue" by introducing candidates to the principles of coherent school systems through the lens of the New Jersey Teacher Leader Endorsement (0199). Candidates will explore The Science of School Improvement (SoSI) and the IMPACT Framework as tools for diagnosing rganizational health. The course places a strong emphasis on the legal, ethical, and non-supervisory boundaries of the NJ Teacher Leader, while designing the two essential conditions of a thriving learning culture: psychological safety and collective efficacy. Candidates will complete a diagnostic audit of their own school's culture and statutory compliance to develop a personal leadership vision.

This course equips teacher leaders with the architectural skills to engineer high-impact Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that are both academically rigorous and culturally sustaining. Candidates will learn to facilitate the LDIR(Learn-Design-Implement-Reflect) cycle with a specific focus on bridging the "knowing-doing" gap for diverse learner populations. Moving beyond "one-and-done" workshops, candidates will architect multi-stage Learning Arcs that incorporate Culturally Responsive-Sustaining (CR-S) education and asset-based curriculum audits. The course prepares leaders to ensure that professional learning translates into equitable classroom practice for all students, including Multilingual Learners and students with IEPs.

This course focuses on the core practices of instructional leadership through the lens of non-evaluative, evidence-based coaching. Using the IMPACT Framework as a structured protocol, candidates will practice facilitating coaching cycles that prioritize the needs of Multilingual Learners (MLs) and students with disabilities, ensuring that the "Instructional Meso-Loop" targets high-leverage scaffolds. Candidates will learn to navigate the ethical boundaries of the NJ 0199 endorsement, maintaining a clear wall between professional growth and the AchieveNJ evaluation system. This work culminates in the design of a school-wide Feedback Architecture that uses "Street Data" to make learning visible and drive systemic improvement.

This capstone course serves as the clinical synthesis of the Teacher Leader program. Candidates transition from building-level leadership to Systems Leadership, focusing on the "Macro-Loop" of school improvement. A primary focus is placed on Policy Advocacy, where candidates learn to navigate the NJ legislative process, State Board of Education mandates, and local board governance. Using The Science of School ImprovementTM (SoSI), candidates will architect a Coherence Blueprint—a multi-year strategic plan that integrates school goals with Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). The course culminates in a formal defense of this architecture, demonstrating the candidate's ability to influence stakeholders and lead systemic change within the legal and ethical framework of the NJ 0199 endorsement.
